GIRL EMPOWERMENT 256

Family Building

Family is a key part of our society and its the nucleus of power and where we learn many of the things we know growing up. We believe strong families, raise great children who in turn form great communities which are key to a great country and a great world. As a leader in church myself, I believe building strong families is a great way of empowering the girl child because this environment is important for proper child upbringing.

Under this ministry we work with both men and women, girls and boys to directly help share the little we have learnt overtime about how to build a family and also create platforms for family counselors to share more about this very concept.

Under family building, we teach the origin of family and God given design for man and woman and we share the deeper intent of marriage under holy matrimony. We surely know in Proverbs  18:22 that “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the Lord.” This makes marriage the most beautiful union between man and woman and is the beginning point of family and the fruits there of are children.
We undoubtedly know children are a gift from God and the parents have a responsibility for a proper upbringing of their offspring so that they carry on the legacy and in so doing giving God due worship.

Family values range from Strong Commitment, Spending Time Together, Good Communication, and Affection for One Another and they are all defined by LOVE.

The only perfect person was Jesus. So, when dealing with imperfect people, like ourselves and our family members, conflict will more than likely arise. The difference in strong families and families that crumble, however, is that strong families deal with conflict well. Conflict can often be challenging, and it is not always the easiest to step into a difficult conversation with grace and love. Through Christ and the mercy He has shown us, however, we can confidently and patiently love our family well even through pain and hurt.

There are also six truths I have found important to share about family and according to Dennis Lynn, PhD, who teaches human development and family sciences at Oregon State University – Cascades, the Family Strengths Research Project is one research effort that offers valuable insights into healthy families.
  1. Strong families express appreciation and affection. They speak in positive and affirming ways and express the love they have for each other.
  2. Strong families have a strong commitment to each other. They are deeply committed to promoting each other’s happiness and welfare and show their commitment by investing time and energy in family activities.
  3. Strong families spend enjoyable time together. They enjoy being together and know that if they don’t prioritize and schedule time together, it won’t happen. Sometimes, love is spelled t-i-m-e.
  4. Strong families manage stress and crisis effectively. They are not immune or exempt from difficult days and challenging situations, but they develop strategies so they can pull together, rather than fall apart.
  5. Strong families have a sense of spiritual well-being. Whatever the expression of their spiritual lifestyle, there are consistent themes of guiding values and ethics, as well as commitment to important causes.
  6. Strong families have effective and positive communication patterns. They talk to each other and listen to each other and may have specific ground rules on how they communicate in respectful, loving ways.
